DE:PLACE*RE:PLACE

A place means a site where something happens. Museums are place for exhibiting art works that connote either tangible or intangible value exchanges. Museums were regarded as very enclosed and definitive space for a long time. With, Seoul City Gallery Project, we want to reinterpret the museum space in the extension of contemporary everyday life. The space will be wide open the public to share common values of art.

1st exhibition, DE:PLACE, in which a cube is placed at the exterior of 10 of chosen department stores or hypermarkets. The artist will present and share art work and its value with people within the process of MAKE-GIVE-SHARE. The cube enables public to join artist’s art works production and consuming process with their own stories, and their traces are gathered with a duct tape to be shown in the Jamsil Olympic Stadium for the RE:PLACE, the second part of the exhibition. A wide circle shape vinyl tape (30m in diameter) will be hung on the ceiling as a leafy center. Beneath it, the 10 cubes will be placed. This leafy centre will provide a resting space for people, importing new meanings in the location as a place of value exchange.

DE:PLACE*RE:PLACE aims to provide an opportunity to connect and interweave the artistic realms of art, music, architecture, media, design and internet. Here, the boundaries will collapse, and the artistic values will be created for people’s common understanding and joint participation. Here, art will be seen in different perspectives. Through this exhibition, the conventional implication of white cube museum will be reinterpreted by placed in the everyday life of common people with the hope that museum could be recreated that produce new significations and meanings.
